How to make your 1:12 bed kit
Share
Folk always ask where I get my dollhouse beds from to display gorgeous patchwork quilts - now I make them myself (with the help of Mr LTW), and so can you with an LTW 1:12 dollhouse bed kit.
The hidden tab design means once painted, your mini bed won't have the tell-tale visible tabs so often seen on furniture kits.
Here's the best way I've found of putting a bed kit together.
- Start with the head board end.
- Add a thin line of glue (PVA or wood glue is fine) to the end of the base and carefully insert. It's a tight fit to keep your bed kit strong.
- Add a thin sliver of glue just an inch or so along the end of each side rail and insert.
- Use an elastic band to hold the half constructed bed kit together and let it dry. This makes gluing the kickboard so much easier!
- Once the glue is dry, repeat on the kick board end.
- The tabs are a tight fit so they stay strong, but there should be enough wriggle-room in the side rails to help you get it lined up. Push down firmly.
- Let everything dry (I know, I know, I'm impatient too!).
- If your side rails feel a little loose, run a line of glue along the underside of your bed and hold in place for as long as it takes your glue to become tacky. This will firm everything up.

Tada! You have a beautiful 1:12 bed! I recommend painting with good quality acrylic paint for event coverage. I usually give my beds at least two coats, with a light sand in between.
And of course I add a quilt. How will you dress your tiny bed?
- Each bed comes as a flat kit. You will need your own glue (PVA or wood glue works fine).
- Bed kits are available in a 'double' (full) or a 'single' (twin) size.
- Optional mattress.

The beds come as unpainted kits, the painted beds and quilts are for illustration only.
Please note, due to small parts this is not intended for small children.
