Miniature Resources: where I buy my beds

Whether you're brand new to the wonderful world of scale miniatures, or you've been knee deep in tiny things for years, there are so many facets to this hobby that there's always something new to discover.

The Miniature Resources Series is your one stop shop to find amazing miniaturists, tutorials and more.

Today's post is all about something I get asked a lot as a mini quilter: "Where do you buy your dollhouse beds?

Here's a run-down of all the mini beds I use to display LTW Miniature quilts, and a few I don't yet but sure would like to!

I got both these gorgeous metal beds from UK based Pretty Little Minis.

I love them because they are unfussy and therefore go with EVERYTHING, but they're also very sturdy, which is helpful as I'm clumsy!

If ever I let my small kids play with my miniatures, these are the beds they get to have!

I got my black bed from UK based SJ Makes.

It's perfect for more modern mini bedrooms, darker colour schemes. It's 3D printed and beautifully delicate in its detail.

You can't see it in the photo, but the slats are 'wood' coloured, which I think is a nice touch.

This bed from US based Tiny Iron Miniatures is an absolute work of art.

Each tiny metal leaf is individually soldered on. I knew I was only going to be able to buy one of their beds, so I went all out fairy fantasy magic, but they really specialise in Victorian 'wrought iron' beds (which I would also love to own!).

If you're not in the US, you'll need to check if Tiny Iron Miniatures are currently shipping internationally. They closed their international books about a week before I ordered mine due to the shipping delays (I think Covid shut-downs were in full swing). Mine did take 2 months to arrive, but it was 100% worth the wait!

And this is the bed I started with.

It's so generic, I've nicknamed it 'ye olde eBay' bed.

You will find this bed anywhere and everywhere. Sometimes it comes bare wood, sometimes painted white. As the nickname suggests, I got mine off eBay.

I've seen miniaturist do lovely things with this bed to make it their own. Me, I just left it as is - varnished wood. It's not the most beautiful thing, but it does the job. And it's the first dollhouse bed I ever owned to display LTW quilts, so I'm a little bit soft for it really.

Dollhouse beds I'd love to own (but don't yet!)

Miniatures by Vio makes the most beautiful kits in lots of styles including more niche eras like art nouveau, midcentury and art deco.

I love anything art deco, so of course this is on my wish list!

Rustic Miniatures make all kinds of dollhouse furniture in various scales from very natural materials. Absolutely perfect for a mouse house, or woodland fairy!

Despite its small size and organic look, it's actually very sturdy. I have a few 1:24 pieces from Rustic Miniatures that our Sylvanian Squirrels use, and they're all adorable and so satisfying.

They don't have any 12th scale beds available at time of writing, but if they did I know it would be wonderful!

I love beds from Smalls Mini Mall. They cram so much detail on to their pieces, you'd never get bored of looking at them.

And because the come unassembled and with a choice of finishes, they not going to completely blow the mini budget.

I don't do a lot of French style/Roccoco miniatures. But if that's your era, certainly worth checking out Smalls Mini Mall!
